Hamlet & The UN: A Eulogy
The United Nations was not born a failure. It was born a promise: that sovereign states would try, after catastrophe, to keep the peace, feed the hungry, and stop the next war from becoming a habit. That promise deserved respect. What followed did not. Over eight decades the organization became a permanent festival of process. It learned to mint new victim classes the way a mint stamps coins. It learned that studies, awareness campaigns, side events, and “must-attend” receptions could substitute for results. Fashion and adjacency became the product. Solutions became the after-dinner mint.
